LoCo News (March 5th) — Happy Early Spring! It’s amazing to hear the robins and other birds singing and as well seeing the emerging yellow daffodils.
In the last week or two, we have been rolling out a new Colombian specialty coffee, the beautifully sweet Finca Los Pinos beans from Huila. As promised, here’s the full story of the coffee beans, and just as important, the story of the hard-working farmers that are bringing us such great products.
From our good friend Luis Sossa, founder of Cosecha Traders, who has worked tirelessly to bring to LocoBeans Coffee some of the best specialty coffee from Colombia, here’s a story about Senior Arcenio Hernandez of the Finca Los Pinos Farm, who had sit down for the interview.
"Arcenio was born and raised in La Plata Huila, where he has worked as a coffee grower. He was producing commercial-grade coffee until his daughter learned more about specialty coffee; he then realized it was a smart move for the family farm. Arcenio was skeptical at first about shifting to specialty coffee and feared it would require a lot of work with few results. Still, thanks to the support and training he received from his daughter, he now works every day to improve and standardize the processes to replicate profiles.
Arcenio never imagined that his coffee would leave the country, as he notes his daughter’s influence in the process. "Without her, I would have been the same coffee grower I always was," says Arcenio. Now, Arcenio works with more motivation and love; he acts upon all his daughter's recommendations while constantly learning to improve his coffee quality. He is also actively working to get other coffee growers in his community to change their mentality and strengthen the processes on their farms. Arcenio dreams of renovating spaces on his farm to optimize the processes he carries out. But he is most grateful to his daughter, who motivated him to change his mind. For Arcenio, coffee and family are the best things life has given him."

Notes: The cup offers a quintessential Huila profile, defined by a brown butter sweetness and creamy texture accented by a tart fruity acidity. Aromatic flavors of Amareno cherry, red grape, cola, and brown sugar.
